Blog Post Deysi Marcos, Class of 2020
Being apart of the Best Buddies Club has truly been one choice I do not regret making. I was the type of person that never thought about taking time to join a club because I felt like I would not put in the time or effort. During the beginning of junior year, I told myself all my focus was going to be on this year’s dance team. Then, people around began signing up for clubs my best friend talked me into trying something new and joining a club. We went around the stands and listened to the representatives of the clubs but nothing really caught my attention until we went to the Best Buddies tables. The teacher was really kind and the students were friendly. I decided to give it a shot and sign up. A couple of days later, I went to the first meeting where the teacher spoke to us about their mission on the club.
Although this is only my first year joining the club I feel like I’ve learned so much already. Growing up I believed that all humans had to look or be a certain way in order to be accepted into society. I now know that all individuals should be treated with respect despite the differences they have with us. Nobody deserves to be treated unfairly because they may not the be exactly the way we are. Joining the Best Buddies club has given me the opportunity to meet new people and interact with the “tiger buddies”. There’s the new girl I met the day before Thanksgiving break who had such a beautiful soul and was carefree. When I introduced myself, she began to talk to me about herself and was really outgoing. I made a new friend. I hope to continue to learn new things in this club.
